On March 7th, 2019, the Highlands Robotics Teams, The Spite-rz and Hercey Heroes, took on their first ever robotics competition. At Butler County Community College,15 different schools gathered to test their robots against others in the ring. For Highlands, it has been a long and intricate process for 4 months designing and creating a fighting bot. The amount of work and intelligence that is put into making a robot to win is hours in and out school, many meetings with designing and welding the robot, and companies to help with the budget. The preliminary competition is a great way to see how far the creations of bots have come, and a hands-on experience on the inner-workings of the school’s personal bot. Dr. John Malobicky is the advisor of both teams, and did a great job of overseeing the success of them at preliminaries.

The specific bot to focus on was the Spite-Bot from The Spite-rz. Throughout many trials, and many, many errors, they were able to successfully complete their robot before the competition. Tyler Mohney, one of the project managers, was able to get the bot constructed with JV Manufacturing. Richard Blake, Sam Kuchek, and Braden Goldberg constructed the entire internal workings of the bot. The Spite-rz were extremely determined when going against Pine Richland in their first battle. Throughout preliminaries, the team learned to work under pressure and expect more out of each other. The final robotics competition at California University, PA will be held on April 26 & 27th, 2019, and this will prove whether or not they worked hard enough on not only their bot and documentation, but their teamwork.
