Mac Miller was a rapper and producer from Pittsburgh.  His discography is one of the most interesting of the decade, and since the release of his 2010 mixtape, K.I.D.S., his popularity and critical acclaim have only increased with each release.  Many fans and collaborators were deeply affected by his passing, as his introspective lyricism and personal subject matter on his later records made listeners feel as if they knew him like a close friend.  There has been some exciting news surrounding Mac Miller recently, however.

About a month ago, producer Thelonius Martin revealed that Mac Miller made music that hasn’t been released yet.  Not just a couple of songs, a whole entire album, and not just any album, an album produced entirely by Madlib. Madlib could be the most respected hip-hop producer of the millennium, having produced what many consider to be the greatest hip-hop record of all time, Madvillain, a collaboration between Madlib and MF DOOM.

A little over a week ago, Madlib played a sample of a track from the album.  He calls the album “Maclib” and says that long-time Mac Miller collaborator, Thundercat, was involved in the recording process.  Madlib hasn’t said whether or not he plans to release the album, but it would be strange for him to play a track from the album if he had no intentions of releasing the entire project at some point.  For fans of Mac Miller’s recent work and hip-hop fans in general, it should be thrilling to know that more Mac music could be on the way very soon.
