Cross country has eight senior members and their names are Brett Campbell, Gudi Kohrgruber, Toni Caridad, Kyla Kelly, Drew Wiley, Corey McClain, Keegan Bello and Ashlyn Jonczak. They had their final track meet on Thursday October 27th. During the beginning of the season the team had placed first in the Yough trail invitational setting them off to a good start. These team members start practicing during the summer to really build up their endurance. The coaches responsible for the success of this team are Mr. Abbott and Coach Albert. They run alongside the team encouraging them to push themselves. Although the season is ending this group of kids can say that they have accomplished a lot during their time on Highlands cross country team.
The official cross country season is over for most, but for Kyla Kelly the season is still going. This weekend on November 6th Kyla will be racing yet again in the state championships. She had recently placed 21st in WPIALs last week. Kyla has been a part of the team for all 4 years of high school and since joining she now hold 2 of the top 10 fastest times for the girls. Just this year Kyla had managed to break the record time at the Yough trails invitational. Even though the season is coming to a bittersweet end for Kyla she said she’s happy with all the success that has come with this team. She had at first only joined the team to get in shape for soccer, but in the end she’s been very successful.
