As basketball season is quickly approaching, I sat down with basketball star Mitch DeZort to get some insight on the Highlands High School Basketball Team.
Sal: This is your senior year, what are your expectations for your final high school season?
Mitch: My expectations are to make it to the WPIAL championship again and win it. I also expect to go to the state championship in Hershey.
Sal: What advice would you give to this year’s incoming freshman basketball players?
Mitch: My advice would be to work as hard as you can everyday because you never know when the team is going to need you, currently, or in the future.
Sal: What was your favorite high school basketball memory and why?
Mitch: My favorite high school memory is hitting the game 3 point shot that tied the game, which later won us the game to go to the WPIAL championship game.
Sal: Who is your favorite rival team to play?
Mitch: I have a couple favorite rivals that we play and they are Freeport, Hampton, and Mars.
Sal: How do you mentally prepare for an important game?
Mitch: To mentally prepare for a game I usually just relax and joke around with other guys on the team so that no one gets nervous or too stiff.
Sal: If you could go play in the NBA, who would you want to play for?
Mitch: I would say the Heat because it would be nice playing by the beach.
Sal: What is your favorite college basketball team?
Mitch: My favorite college basketball team is Yale.
Sal: I know you play both football and basketball, but which one do you prefer more and why?
Mitch: I really like playing basketball, but I really enjoy playing football knowing that is what I will continue to play in college.
Sal: What is the biggest lesson that you have learned from playing basketball?
Mitch: The biggest lesson I’ve learned while playing basketball is that even when you miss a shot, you have to believe that the next one is going in.
Sal: What was your best game that you can recall?
Mitch: My best game I recall is probably last year’s game against Knoch.
Sal: What will you miss most about high school basketball?
Mitch: Out of anything, the thing I’ll miss most about high school basketball is playing with some of my best friends.
Thank you for your time Mitch. Best of luck this season! I’m looking forward to be cheering you all on to a winning season.
