The annual AK Band Festival took place over Thursday and Friday of last week (17th and 18th), at Penn Hills Highschool. The auditions took place in early December and were open to all students 10th grade or higher. Highlands had massive representation with 15 students being accepted. A guest  conductor is brought in to lead the band, this year it was the band director from Utah. For seniors who are going to college with a major and or minor in music there is a $500 scholarship awarded to one member. I have been apart of these festivals for three years at this point and this being my last, I see the need for the Festival and hope the AK Valley continues this wonderful tradition.
