The Last Days of a Senior Football Player

In the days leading up to the last game of the Golden Rams’ season there was a feeling of sadness over the football field. The season would end with a 3-6 record in the season with no playoff show for the year. Uncomparable to the previous seasons with consecutive playoff visits as far back as 2013. Though no one can say that we didn’t put up a fight or weren’t a team to compete with this season. The largest score deficit we faced was 34 points to an undefeated South Fayette, predicted to blow us out of the water.

To some, this was a year of realizations and readjustments for the seasons to come. For others, this would be the last week they would play as a Golden Ram or even play at all at this level of competition. One player in particular Brayden Thimons who will go on to play Division I football at Robert Morris looked at the end of the season in a positive light.

When asked about how he felt that it was his last week of high school football he responded “ It’s gonna be different only playing one way… but it’s something I look forward to.” Brayden’s been out with an injury and has played strictly defense since being allowed to return to the game which left the QB spot up for consideration. He was confident in his teammates though and expects in the coming years they will become great quarterbacks with a lot of potential. Although Brayden’s moving on to the next level, some of his teammates faced the end of the road, Thimons stated that these guys he’s played with these past four years will always be his brothers. For the rest of the team? He said to “ play every play like it’s your last” no matter what grade you’re in.

The last game of the season approaching quickly I asked how he felt the outcome would be that Friday. He felt that the team would come together and play a great last game with each other, and the Rams didn’t disappoint. Although we didn’t come out with the win the team played amazing with a few key players to the win. Dominic Martinka with 4 touchdowns for the team and Brayden with two more on rushing plays and a fumble recovery at the Indiana 3. The Rams fell to Indiana 52-42 however, this season will be an unforgettable one and a building block for the seasons to come.
